Personal Support Worker

Personal Support Worker Diploma Program (NACC Accredited) graduates are required to function in the traditional caretaker role at institutions providing health care, and community agencies which provide health care service and homemaking skills. In order to provide safe, effective, and sensitive skills in care giving and community work, it is imperative that individuals adopt a psychosocial approach to care. Sensitivity to the individual and their rights is central to both the theme of instruction and training of the Personal Support Worker. Safe and effective functioning requires the need to understand the legalities of the role of the worker, and the demand for a positive work ethic that is productive and constructive to the Personal Support Worker role. It is imperative that Canadian Business College graduates of the program understand their own strengths and limitations, and can interact and communicate effectively with clients, families, and Health Care team members.

Long-term care and support workers form the backbone of community and facility services. They are often the people with whom clients have the most contact and with whom they develop close relationships. The attitude, approach and abilities of workers are critical to the well-being, comfort, safety, and health of the people they support.

The Personal Support Worker program was developed as part of the Ontario Government's plan to reform long-term care and support services.

The goal of this Canadian Business School career program is to help individuals master the personal and occupational skills required to care for people living at home and in long-term care facilities.

Upon passing the NACC exam students are awarded their credential. A NACC Certificate and a PIN is also provided upon successfully passing the NACC exam.
