Community Service Worker

Program Overview

This one-year diploma credential equips students to support individuals and families navigating personal and social challenges through comprehensive study of counseling methodologies, crisis intervention, and case management. Spanning 46 weeks with 875 hours of theoretical instruction and optional 200-hour practicum placement, the curriculum develops competencies grounded in sociology, psychology, and social science foundations essential for human services and community welfare sectors.

Core Competencies

Students develop proficiency in community service worker foundations, social welfare policy and diversity awareness, family and couples relationship counseling, client-oriented case management, environmental issues affecting vulnerable populations, crisis intervention techniques, bereavement and elderly care support, understanding human behavior patterns, abuse recognition and response protocols, volunteer management, professional counseling skills, and comprehensive report writing for social services documentation.

Entry-level positions: Community Service Worker, Community Counselor-Social Services, Community and Social Services Worker roles in agencies, community centers, mental health organizations, group homes, shelters, substance abuse centers.
