Early Childhood Education is an extremely rewarding profession. There is a great demand across British Columbia for qualified and dedicated Early Childhood Educators that can provide superior care and education for children from birth to school age.
The first five years of a child’s life are the most formative and highly important to their development. The needs of preschool children have become a top priority. As an Early Childhood Educator, you will fill a meaningful and fulfilling role in society. Your job prospects after completing this program are excellent, as over 98 percent of Stenberg Early Childhood Education program graduates find employment within six months of program completion in daycare, preschools, nursery schools, special needs centres, public schools, and infant/toddler centres.
Admission Requirements
Completion of Grade 12 graduation or equivalent, or mature student status*
Passing Stenberg College’s Admission entrance examination or equivalent*
Successful completion of a short written essay
Passing Verbal Test of English if ESL or equivalent*
Completion of Stenberg College entrance informational interview
Acceptable Criminal Record Review with Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General
* Entrance requirements can be met with evidence of alternate assessments such as Challenge Exams, or acceptable standardized English equivalency tests as per the Stenberg College Language Proficiency chart. Evidence of Post-Secondary studies at an equivalent level where English was the first language is acceptable.
Program Advisors will work with students to obtain the following:
Proof of 50 hours of volunteer work/paid work experience with children aged 3-5 or have parented a child aged 3-5. This requirement can be met whilst parenting own children.
Reference letter stating suitability to work with children.
Learn about new schools and available funding offers.
Stay informed on loans and grants as they are available.
