Program Overview

This intensive certificate credential establishes English language proficiency pathways for non-native speakers pursuing vocational education at CanNorth College. Offering three assessment-based levels—Beginner (252 hours/21 weeks), Intermediate (216 hours/18 weeks), Advanced (144 hours/12 weeks)—the curriculum develops comprehensive communication competencies through structured instruction in speaking, listening comprehension, reading analysis, written composition, grammar application, and pronunciation refinement including accent reduction techniques.

Core Competencies

Students develop proficiency in conversational English through two-way discussions, role-play, and business communication; listening comprehension encompassing sentence completion, multiple choice analysis, and information matching; reading comprehension spanning multiple-matching, summarization, and specific information identification; academic and professional writing including transactional correspondence, argumentative essays, and discourse markers; grammar mastery covering tenses, conditionals, modals, and reported speech; plus pronunciation skills addressing syllable stress and phonetic accuracy.

Academic preparation: Successful Advanced Level completion qualifies international students for admission to CanNorth College diploma and certificate programs across healthcare, business, hospitality, and community service sectors.
