Esthetics

Program Overview

The Esthetician diploma program provides students with comprehensive training in skincare, body treatments, nail services, massage, and makeup artistry within an accelerated program delivered in under one year. The program progresses through three distinct phases: theoretical knowledge and hands-on practice with classmates, clinic training witnessing and beginning spa operations, and immersed spa atmosphere with advanced classes. Students develop competencies through extensive real client experience in Modern College's in-house spa with clinic floor open five days per week, significantly more than typical community colleges, preparing graduates for careers helping clients feel confident, relaxed, and empowered across Northern Ontario's beauty and wellness industry.

Core Competencies

  • Students develop skincare and facial treatment expertise including facial analysis, facials without and with machines, specialized Guinot facials, professional skincare techniques, client consultation, and comprehensive understanding of skin care principles for diverse clientele across spa and wellness environments.
  • Students acquire body treatment and specialized service capabilities through body care including waxing and body treatments, Swedish relaxation full body massage, hot stone massage, nail care including manicures, pedicures, and artificial nails, makeup artistry for daytime, evening, bridal applications, lash and brow tinting, and introduction to aromatherapy.
  • Students cultivate business and professional competencies through professional image development, retail skills, marketing for spa professionals, three-phase progressive training structure, extensive hands-on client experience, and comprehensive career preparation for employment in spas, salons, wellness centers, medical spas, or independent business ownership.

Career Pathways

Entry-level roles: Graduates work as Estheticians, Spa Technicians, Skincare Specialists, Makeup Artists, or begin careers in spas, salons, wellness centers, medical spas, and beauty establishments across Northern Ontario at campuses in North Bay, Sudbury, and Barrie.

Advancement opportunities: With experience, graduates may progress to senior esthetician positions, medical esthetician specializations, spa management roles, independent business ownership, platform artist/educator positions, or specialized careers in cosmetic industry education and product representation.

Industry demand: Ontario's beauty and wellness industry maintains strong demand for skilled estheticians who can provide holistic client experiences, enhance client confidence and well-being, foster trust and long-term relationships, and drive economic growth through professional spa services and business entrepreneurship.
