Program Overview

The Hospital Unit Clerk diploma program provides students with essential skills to support communication between physicians, nurses, patients, and departments within hospital and clinical settings. Over 23 weeks, students develop competencies in medical terminology, patient documentation, electronic medical records (EMR), scheduling, physician order processing, health information management, diagnostic testing, vital signs measurement, examination room preparation, infection control, and professional healthcare communication, preparing them to confidently support hospital operations through online delivery with practical, job-ready training.

Core Competencies

  • Students develop healthcare administrative expertise including health care delivery systems, health care terminology, human anatomy and physiology, health information management, and comprehensive understanding of the Canadian healthcare system essential for coordinating patient information and supporting clinical teams.
  • Students acquire electronic medical records proficiency managing electronic scheduling, clinical documentation, referrals and medical billing within EMR systems, producing accurate medical correspondence, and maintaining organized patient records compliant with healthcare standards.
  • Students cultivate clinical support capabilities through diagnostic testing and patient preparation, measuring vital signs, preparing examination rooms, assisting during procedures, maintaining infection control standards, and professional communication with computer applications and Microsoft Office proficiency.
