Medix College’s Medical Laboratory Technician/Assistant program immerses you in the exciting world of the medical laboratory, which offers a unique combination of technical skills and job satisfaction working with a diverse population within the healthcare field. In just over a year, you will learn how to conduct a variety of routine medical laboratory tests.
Graduates will also be eligible to write both the provincial (OSMT) and national (CSMLS) exams to gain industry certification in the field. The theory component of the MLTA program consists of anatomy & physiology, medical terminology, professionalism & ethics, laboratory safety, hematology & immunohematology, ECG fundamentals, clinical chemistry, urinalysis & body fluids, histology & cytology, microbiology, laboratory math & analytical quality assurance, communications, CPR and more.
A Medical Laboratory Technician works under the direction of a Medical Laboratory Technologist and assists in various clinical laboratory procedures including but not limited to:
TPI-MAS helps students recognize the choices they have in life and how to control how they think to change the way they live their lives. Students will understand how the human mind works and how their beliefs and attitudes influence the present and shape the future. The program encourages students to have a positive outlook and strive for goals despite any challenges and obstacles.
