Primary Care Paramedic

Paramedics are true heroes. They are the steady and fast-acting professionals we rely on in times of medical crisis. If you are level-headed, unfettered in emergency situations, and think you could provide emergency medical care, then being a paramedic could be the right career move for you.

As a Paramedic, you would be responsible for responding to emergency medical situations, stabilizing the patient, and getting them to the hospital quickly and safely. You would coordinate with other emergency workers, and assist hospital staff when needed, documenting the illness or injury and treatment provided.

The best way to see if Oxford College is the right fit for you is to come in and visit the school. You can tour our facilities, and meet with both students and instructors.

Become Qualified as a Primary Care Paramedic

Oxford College’s Primary Care Paramedic program equips you with the necessary skills and knowledge to work in this dynamic profession. As one of the few private postsecondary institutions in Canada that offer this program, Oxford College brings you unparalleled specialized training.

As a Primary Care Paramedic, you will administer pre-hospital emergency medical care to patients with injuries or medical illnesses and transport them to hospitals or other medical facilities for further medical care. Through hands-on learning, you will develop critical-thinking and decision-making skills to effectively deal with medical emergencies. You will also be trained to communicate with patients, family members, and other healthcare professionals in a professional and compassionate manner.

During the Primary Care Paramedic program, you’ll learn how to:

  • Assess the extent of injuries or medical illnesses of trauma victims, patients with respiratory disease and stress, overdose and poisoning victims, industrial accident victims, and other ill or injured individuals to determine emergency medical treatment
  • Administer pre-hospital emergency care to patients such as oxygen therapy, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), spinal immobilization, bandaging, and splinting

Train Using a Fully Equipped Ambulance

The fully-outfitted ambulance will provide you with the chance to learn in facilities that are similar to what you will encounter when you enter the working work. Training with actual equipment means you will already have bridged any potential knowledge gap when you pursue work as a Parademic. You’ll be familiar with the equipment and procedures, and that confidence will be apparent to your employer, coworkers, and patients.
