Program Overview
 

Grand Health Academy is proud to offer our Ministry Approved Food Service Worker (FSW) certificate program.

The Food Service Worker Certificate Program supplies students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be an effective member of the food service team in hospitals, institutional or long-term care/ retirement facilities and restaurants.

The Food Service Worker will learn of basic nutrition, special diet needs, serving, food preparation techniques, and be able to operate kitchen utensils and equipment safely and efficiently.  The food service worker will also be able to relate, communicate and co-operate effectively with staff, residents, residents’ families and the public.

FSW Skills Acquired

  • Rules, regulations and legislation of the FSW workplace
  • Safe work practices, hygiene and sanitation standards
  • Knowledge of anatomy and functions of the human digestive tract
  • Ability to recognize reliable sources of nutrition
  • Cooking principles and methods
  • Understanding of specialized diet requirements and their ingredients
  • Safe work practices in all Food Service sectors and associated facilities
  • Ability to use specialized kitchen equipment and tools
  • An in-depth knowledge of nutrition
  • Food preparation techniques and recipes
